The Color Wash, Ultra Color Wash and Chroma
Jewels are watercolors
that are custom blended by Zana using pure pigments,
suspended in water and mixed with a binder. |

Lifting Color with Water!
Because these are pure watercolors...water
will "lift" the color off! Experiment by painting,
spattering or spraying with plain old water over the paper surface
or on a selected section that has been painted/sprayed with the
Jewels. With a paper towel just blot off the water to reveal
a lighter color underneath the water painted area!
The water lifts and lightens the color underneath it.
I have found that certain combinations
of colors can create WOW effects! My latest favorites are using
Obsidian with almost every other color! Try using it with Garnet,
Sapphire and Malachite. Spray it first, then add other colors.
Here is an example to inspire you to experiment!
The inside of the chop and heron chop images were painted with
water and then "lifted".

Applying with a Sweep!
Spray your jewel colors by "sweeping"across
the paper to get an evenly applied color. Then overlap by spraying
other colors using the same technique!
If you simply "squirt", without
moving your hand/wrist or spray bottle, the application of your
color will be contained, concentrated and spotty. There are creative
reasons to apply the sprayed colors this way but you need to
first practice on the sweep technique to gain a sense of control
and confidence!
Think of how you would apply paint from an aresol can of spray
paint...same principle of applying! Move the "nozzle"
to get smoother coverage and color areas that will be easily
blended by overlapping another color "sweep"!

Create a Mosaic Background!
Spray paper surface with Tanzanite
CWJ.
Stamp Summer Chop in Document ink and dry
Create a mosaic background by drawing lines with a fine lined
permanent marker to break up the entire paper surface into abstract
shapes.
Paint water inside the chop image to "lift" color out.
Using a small paint brush, paint Blue Topaz CWJ inside drawn
various shapes.
Highlight areas with flourescent colored pencils and a bleach
pen.
Stamp Summer words paragraph over surface
in Document ink.
* Lines can be drawn before you spray colors
or after you have stamped! It doesn't matter!

Place the fern down on the bare paper then spray with Obsidian.
Remove the fern and dry paper with a heat gun.
